Dr. Darity and Ms. Mullen look both to the past and present to measure inequalities borne of white supremacy on Black economic well-being and explore the historical impacts of slavery, Jim Crow, and modern-day discrimination to make a comprehensive case for economic reparations for US descendants of slavery. During their discussion on October 7th, they discuss current events and share their ideas about the importance of a federal-level reparations program based on four pillars: eligibility, addressing and correcting the racial wealth gap, direct payments, facilitated by the federal government. |
Exploring the Wealth Gap - NAACP Economic Development

The purpose of their presentation is to shift thought from an exclusive focus on “anti-poverty and jobs,” to one that includes “building and protecting wealth.” This session is a must-watch to understand economic equity and the work the NAACP will need to embark on to achieve it. |
