Our Mission

The NAACP works to ensure that all disadvantaged students and students of color are on the path to college or a successful career by ensuring access to great teaching, equitable resources, and a challenging curriculum. We are dedicated to eliminating the severe racial inequities that continue to plague our education system. Our ultimate goal is that every student of color receives a quality public education that prepares them to be a contributing member of a democracy.

Current Action
Picture
"The litigation against Navient, which resulted in a $1.85 billion settlement agreement, exposed the predatory nature of student loans. While students saw college as a pathway to prosperity, loan servicing companies saw college as an opportunity to make money from student debt. The federal government has a fiduciary responsibility to all borrowers whose decision to pursue higher education resulted in a loan that is refractory to the current economic conditions.

Black borrowers and low-income borrowers share a disproportionate share of the student debt burden. Thus, canceling student debt is an important first step for these citizens to finally realize the promise they pursued when they enrolled in college."

KVRU 105.7 FM Seattle ยท Share Our Truth: Episode 3 from the NAACP Youth Council
"Share Our Truth (previously "Keepin it real") is a podcast where the youth tell the truth about real world topics and give our take on discussions about how us youth relate to what is going on, how to advocate, and to fight and fix injustices in the schooling systems and judicial systems. Share Our Truth is about ending white supremacy culture to insure that youth and Black, Indigenous, and people of color have equal opportunities."
