Mental Health Webinar Focuses on Recruitment of Diverse Professionals
Recruiting Diverse Professionals to the Mental Health Care Field is a webinar scheduled for Saturday, April 16, 10 am - 11:30 am, PST. This panel discussion will happen via Zoom. After attendees reserve a space, they will be sent a Zoom link. Please RSVP to Health@seattlekingcountynaacp.org In the mental health field, there is a shortage of diverse professionals to meet the needs of clients who have issues related to race and gender identity. Often agencies and organizations are challenged to find therapists and counselors who share the same racial or gender-identity background. Consequently, treatment can be less effective and even frustrating for the client or patient. Many providers now believe that recruitment must target diverse groups for recruitment and also information about mental health careers should be provided to high school and college students to encourage them to pursue certain career paths. This discussion will focus on barriers to recruitment and effective methods to address this problem. Featured panelists are Michael Swann, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Jennifer Hyppolite, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and mental health advocate and life coach, Amabel Narvaez.
