For Immediate Release: Wednesday, August 19th, 2015 Contact: Claude Burfect, burfe2@gmail.com, 206-719-0728 Seattle King County NAACP and Local Community Leaders to Hold Dedication and Memorial Service for Charleston 9 Establish Memorial Site in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park Seattle, WA--On Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 3:00 PM, the Seattle King County NAACP, the United Black Christian Clergy, First AME Church, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, and Afri-PAC will host a dedication and memorial ceremony in remembrance of the Charleston 9 murder victims whose lives were brutally taken in the name of racial hatred. Dozens of community members will gather as local groups establish a permanent living memorial for the Charleston 9 here in King County. The memorial site will include a planted tree surrounded by nine plants—each plant representing a slain victim. A cornerstone will be placed at the site as a reminder that racial hated is unacceptable and to ensure that we never to forget what happened in Charleston, SC.
